Because I realized, even though I'm bored tonight, I'm safe and healthy.

Sorry if this is a damper on your weekend, gosh no I’d hate to do that, I’m excited to be back at school and seeing all my friends, but I started to get bored. I wasn’t sulking but I pouted for a moment, and then I thought about what I can do with some of this energy…And what I care about; I realized that while I cannot physically go to Haiti, I’m finally in the position to help people in need (at least somewhat) . Most of my life I’ve wanted to help and I could not find a way to do so. Being busy, or depressed or too young stopped me for years from being the person I wanted to be, but I’m a big girl now and I have to step up the best I can.

I’m taking a philosophy class, ethics in the modern world, and its reminding me that as much as I am an American, I am a woman (struggling with the definition of feminism), I am from New Jersey (not the armpit of the world thank you) and I’m an artist. I am a citizen of the world and if it were me trapped under a fallen building I would hope someone would take the time to care, to help, to do whatever they could.

So has anyone started doing anything charity related for Haiti?

I’m at school and I just started working on turning my school’s staged reading (of Harvey) into a benefit event… Coordinating with campus ministry, my group and student government is not exactly a picnic but I’m hoping in a few months to be able to donate to the red cross or Oxfam.
