Fantastic experience with Memorable Costa Rica
What's a Jewish guy to do Christmas week? On a last minute whim, I decided what I wanted to do was travel to Costa Rica. I've traveled a lot on my own but Costa Rica is the type of place that being part of a tour really helps you plan and get around as the regions are far apart and are often connected by windy gravel roads with spotty signage.
So, I did the usual - I Googled. And I found a tour aimed at Jewish singles that went from Xmas day through New Years. Perfect! Now, I'd never heard of the company before, but after a long conversation with the owner, Marcus, I took the plunge.
And I'm so happy I did.
Memorable Costa Rica did everything right. Really. Marcus takes his business very seriously and is absolutely your advocate every step of the way. The entire trip was intricately planned and in just one week I managed to get in the Costa Rica specialty of Ziplining along with Canyoning (essentially rappelling down and alongside waterfalls), snorkeling, plenty of time at the beach at the Riu Guanacaste, the most amazing hot springs at world-famous Tabacon in the Arenal region, and a visit to a coffee plantation.
The tour covered nearly everything. I believe that all but one meal was covered in the price leaving me almost never needing to even carry my wallet.
Our guide, Daniel, was easily the best tour guide ever. His knowledge of Costa Rica runs deep - as deep as I can imagine anyone knowing Costa Rica. You could literally ask him ANYTHING (What animal just ran by? What birds are in this region? Where can I get a coffee in town?) from the big questions to the most mundane. And as we drove from area to area, he was always sure to let us know what we were seeing and what the history was. He was also amazingly friendly and we were all instantly comfortable with him.
The trip had 26 people on it from all over the US and Canada (and one from the UK) and I honestly feel like I have 25 new friends. We bonded quickly the first day we arrived in San Jose and stayed at the Crowne Plaza Corobici before boarding the bus the next day to the Arenal volcano and the Tabacon resort.
In short, if you are looking for this kind of a trip, talk to Marcus. He runs a class act of a tour company.
